The use of NATO command structures in the deployment of peacekeeping forces in Ukraine will be regarded as an aggressive action by the North Atlantic Alliance, State Duma deputy, First Deputy Chairman of the Defense Committee Alexei Zhuravlev told Izvestia on April 3.

Earlier in the day, the Financial Times newspaper, citing EU officials, reported that European countries were considering using NATO command structures to deploy peacekeeping forces in Ukraine.

"Even if one of the reasons for the start of a special military operation was the catastrophic approach of NATO to our borders, then what reaction can be expected when the same troops suddenly appear even closer, already in Ukraine, only hiding under the sheep's skin of a peacekeeping mission. This is not something that is unacceptable, and we will regard such a step as a clear aggression on the part of the North Atlantic Alliance," Zhuravlev stressed.

Also, according to him, this will be considered an invasion of the sphere of state interests of the Russian Federation, and each such unit will immediately become a priority target for the Russian army.

"I understand that many in Europe are now inflamed by the bellicose rhetoric of London and Paris, but I urge you to come to your senses and not deliberately escalate the situation. You are guaranteed to receive a string of coffins back, and let's see how the voters of Great Britain and France will react to such a political decision by the authorities," the MP added.

On the eve of NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said that in the first quarter of 2025, the countries of the bloc allocated about € 20 billion for military assistance to Ukraine. He added that the alliance will continue to support Kiev and welcomes the efforts of the United States to resolve the conflict.

On March 2, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that discussions in Europe about peacekeepers for Kiev were arrogance, a continuation of Kiev's incitement against Russia. According to him, the appearance of European peacekeepers in Ukraine will mean that the root causes of the crisis will not disappear for the Russian Federation.
