Duties on imported goods from different countries are being imposed by US President Donald Trump as a whip. This opinion was expressed by political scientist Dmitry Zhuravlev on Thursday, April 3.

According to the expert, Trump says this almost openly.

"Therefore, the fact that duties have been imposed on Ukraine, but not on Russia, means that from the point of view of Trump and his team, Russia is doing what it should, and Ukraine is not doing what it should. That is, it is necessary to crack the whip in front of Ukraine's nose, but in front of Russia's nose there is no such need from Trump's point of view," Zhuravlev explained.

Earlier, on April 2, Trump announced the tariffs, RT reports. He also showed a chart with a list of countries and topics related to the new duties of the United States against them. It was specified that duties of 20% will be imposed on goods from the European Union (EU), 34% on goods from China.

Russia was not on the list, reports 360.ru . Belarus, Iran, Canada and Mexico are also missing from the list.

U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent explained why Russia and Belarus were not included in the list of countries subject to new trade duties, the National News Agency reports.

According to him, the tariffs did not affect these countries, as the United States does not trade with them, as they are under economic sanctions, according to the website. kp.ru .

On March 26, President Trump announced the introduction of 25 percent duties in the United States on all cars and trucks manufactured outside the country. He clarified that these measures will come into force on April 2 and will be added to the existing ones. The White House estimates that approximately $100 billion in annual duties will be collected.
