Russian Security Council Chairman Dmitry Medvedev said on April 3 that the consequences of the imposition of duties by US President Donald Trump against most countries would be global.

"Counter tariffs will be imposed on goods from the United States. Old trade chains will be broken, but new ones will arise," Medvedev wrote on his Telegram channel.

He stressed that for Russia, despite the sanctions, trade with the United States and the European Union (EU) does not play a significant role, and the country's economy continues to develop — "growth of about 3% is expected in the first quarter of 2025."

Medvedev added that Russia should calmly observe the collapse of the EU economy, using the philosophy of Lao Tzu: "sit on the shore and wait for the corpse of the enemy to float past us."

On the same day, Trump announced the tariffs. He also showed a chart with a list of countries and topics related to the new duties of the United States against them. It was specified that duties of 20% will be imposed on goods from the European Union (EU), 34% on goods from China.

At the same time, the Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic of China stated that the state would respond to the duties imposed by the President of the United States and protect its rights. According to the agency, an increase in tariffs will not solve the United States' own problems.
