You can do the cleaning after repairs yourself, saving money on cleaning. Most of the work is easier to do than it seems at first glance. Fyodor Vasiliev, an expert on building materials, founder and CEO of GLAVSNAB, shared with Izvestia on April 4 the post-repair cleaning technique that will help put the apartment in order without unnecessary financial costs.

He explained that the first step should always be a rough cleaning — removing most of the debris and dust.

"I strongly recommend getting a construction vacuum cleaner — an ordinary household vacuum cleaner is not designed for large debris and will quickly fail. With such a vacuum cleaner, it is convenient to collect not only dust, but also small fragments of materials, crumbs and other debris," the expert recommended.

According to him, special attention should be paid to the walls and ceiling. After repairs, it is best to clean them with a wide paint brush with a long pile, which will effectively collect the settled dust without lifting it into the air.

Vasiliev recommended using a spatula to clean the glass and window sills from the remnants of building mixes. However, he noted that the edge of the tool must be wrapped with a soft cloth so as not to leave scratches.

Next, you need to proceed to wet cleaning, starting with the windows. It is best to use a solution of warm water with a small amount of dishwashing detergent.

"In any case, do not use acetone or alcohol—containing liquids - they can leave streaks. Microfiber cloths are ideal for wiping, because they do not have lint and will make windows clean without streaks," Vasilyev warned.

At the same time, the expert said that floors should be cleaned in two stages: first dry cleaning, then wet. He recommended preparing a mild soap solution for linoleum and laminate, and special ceramic products for tiles.

"Don't forget about the radiators and ventilation grilles — they first need to be vacuumed with a narrow nozzle, and then wiped with a damp cloth," the specialist suggested.

The final stage is to protect surfaces from dust, as its residues after dry cleaning are still flying in the air. For furniture and doors, Vasiliev advised using wet microfiber with the addition of silicone spray, which eliminates static electricity and prevents rapid dust deposition.

Earlier, on March 6, Nikita Tyrin, director of Sberbank Insurance projects, told Izvestia how to prepare an apartment for rent. He advised checking the condition of plumbing, electrical wiring, plumbing and other safety features, especially for apartment owners in the old housing stock. In addition, it is necessary to carry out repairs and remove unnecessary items.
