Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS), Doctor of Medical Sciences Mikhail Medvedev died at the age of 90. This was announced on April 3 by Vladimir Mazur, Governor of the Tomsk Region.

The cause of death and the date of farewell to Medvedev are unknown.

"I am sorry to the family, friends, colleagues and students of Mikhail Andreevich," he wrote on his Telegram channel.

According to Mazur, it is difficult to overestimate the scientific achievements of the academician, who was an outstanding physiologist, organizer of healthcare and higher education in the field of medicine. His contribution to science and healthcare is invaluable: Medvedev has trained more than 100 doctors and candidates of sciences, as well as thousands of doctors.

In addition, the governor of the Tomsk region said that under the guidance of the scientist, new methods of prevention and treatment of various diseases had been developed and implemented. In particular, he played a key role in the creation of the first domestic pacemakers and electrostimulators for the gastrointestinal tract.

Mikhail Medvedev served as rector of the Siberian State Medical University from 1974 to 1997. He carried out a lot of research and contributed to the development of healthcare in Western Siberia.
