China has promised to respond to the imposition of duties by the United States.

China will respond to the tariffs imposed by US President Donald Trump and defend its rights. This was announced on April 3 by the Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic of China.
"China strongly opposes this and will take tough countermeasures to protect its rights and interests," the statement said.
The department noted that, as history has proven, increasing duties will not solve the United States' own problems.
"The United States claims that it has suffered losses in international trade, and has increased tariffs for all trading partners for reasons of so-called "reciprocity." This practice ignores the balance of interests achieved over the years during multilateral trade negotiations," the ministry concluded.
On April 2, Trump announced large-scale measures: base tariffs of 10% are being introduced for all products supplied to the United States. For the EU, this figure has been raised to 20%, and for China — to 34%. In his speech, the president called April 2 the day when Americans will become rich again.
