The head of the European Commission (EC), Ursula von der Leyen, did not announce retaliatory trade duties, while calling on US President Donald Trump to negotiate. She made the corresponding appeal on April 3.

"We call for negotiations on the removal of trade barriers with the United States. But we are ready to act," she said.

According to the politician, the EU has almost completed the preparation of the first package of possible retaliatory measures. But it will be adopted only if negotiations on the abolition of duties fail.

"I deeply regret President Trump's decision. The global economy will suffer greatly, the consequences will be catastrophic for all countries of the world and will deal a severe blow to the most vulnerable segments of the population," she added.

On March 26, President Trump announced the introduction of 25 percent duties in the United States on all cars and trucks manufactured outside the country. He clarified that these measures will come into force on April 2 and will be added to the existing ones. The White House estimates that approximately $100 billion in annual duties will be collected.
