- The Canadian economist pointed to the political reason for Trump's introduction of new duties.

The introduction of new economic import duties by US President Donald Trump is associated with a crisis in the domestic policy of the state. Alan Freeman, a Canadian political scientist, economist, co-director of the Institute for the Study of Geopolitical Economy, member of the editorial board of the Revista de Economia Politica magazine, and Deputy Chairman of the World Association for Political Economy, told this on April 3.
"I think the main reason is that the American government system is in a very serious crisis, and this crisis is caused by the accumulation of 30 years of mistakes that have been committed. These are economic mistakes, military mistakes and other mistakes of the government," he said in an interview with Izvestia.
He also pointed out that the fundamental problem for the United States is that the country is no longer able to elect a president whom the population can trust.
Another problem, according to the economist, is that "America does not have a strategy to create allies." Because of this, many friends of the United States turn into enemies after a while.
"They (the European partners of the United States. They are very angry at Trump for trying to stop the conflict in Ukraine, which is the only sensible thing he has tried to do. But it seems he's giving up on her now. This is an illustration of instability - when you first say that you want to cease fire and start conducting normal negotiations, and then stop in the middle and start talking about resuming military supplies and sanctions," the expert said.
On April 3, American economist Lipow named two reasons for Trump's introduction of new duties. The first goal is to bring industrial jobs back to the United States, such as steel, aluminum, and other heavy industries. The second goal, in his opinion, is to create equal conditions in international trade, when the duties of different countries would become approximately the same. The analyst stressed that the increase in duties in a couple of weeks will affect the prices of vegetables and fruits that are supplied to the United States from other countries.
On March 26, US President Donald Trump announced the introduction of 25% duties in the United States on all cars and trucks manufactured outside the country. He clarified that these measures will come into force on April 2 and will be added to the existing ones. The White House estimates that approximately $100 billion in annual duties will be collected.
