Organizations protecting the rights of people with disabilities have filed a lawsuit against the administration of US President Donald Trump and billionaire Elon Musk, claiming that they violated various laws by firing thousands of social workers. This was announced on Wednesday, April 2, according to the Reuters news agency.

The lawsuit filed on Wednesday concerns mass layoffs and the closure of offices that investigated civil rights complaints and served social security recipients.

"The lawsuit says that the cuts in the SSA disproportionately affected recipients with disabilities and violated their rights under the U.S. Constitution," the newspaper writes.

Musk's DOGE not only laid off about 7,000 SSA employees, but also radically reduced government spending, the agency said.

SSA sends checks to 73 million retirees and people with disabilities every month and is considered the most important provider of benefits for older Americans.

On this day, Politico learned about the likely departure of Elon Musk from the post of head of DOGE. At the same time, according to the publication, dissatisfaction with Musk's unpredictability is growing within the US administration, and some officials "view him as a political burden."

On April 1, Trump announced that Musk might step away from politics and government in the future in order to devote all his time to business again. Trump also appreciated how well Musk was doing his job, calling him a "talented guy."
