A Russian player of the Washington Capitals hockey club has repeated the National Hockey League (NHL) record for the number of goals scored in a season among players aged 39.

Ovechkin was helped to repeat the record by a goal in the match against the Carolina Hurricanes. Thus, the Russian player scored 39 goals during the season. Canadian player Gordie Howe showed a similar result in the 1967/68 season.

At the moment, the Russian has scored a total of 892 goals in his career.

On March 2, Ovechkin broke the NHL record for goals in a season among players over the age of 30. In a match against the Boston Bruins hockey club on April 2, the Russian athlete scored an abandoned puck, which became his 416th since reaching the age of 30.
