US Special Representative Steve Witkoff will meet in Washington with Kirill Dmitriev, a senior Russian negotiator and head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), to ease tensions after the words of US President Donald Trump. This was reported by Bloomberg on Wednesday, April 2.

"According to a person familiar with the plans, [Witkoff] is expected to meet with [Dmitriev] in Washington in an attempt to ease tensions after [Trump] expressed dissatisfaction with his counterpart Vladimir Putin," the publication says.

Dmitriev, 49, runs Russia's sovereign wealth fund and played an important role in negotiations between the United States and Russia, the newspaper reported. His presence in the U.S. capital highlights the prospects for closer business cooperation between the two countries on potential projects, including in the Arctic and on liquefied natural gas.

CNN reported on the visit of the head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund to Washington for talks with Witkoff earlier in the day. It is indicated that the envoys will discuss strengthening relations between the Russian Federation and the United States, as well as the conflict in Ukraine.

Later, information about his planned trip was confirmed by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov. He said that Russia continues dialogue with the American side through various channels.
