Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov discussed with First Deputy Foreign Minister of Belarus Sergey Lukashevich the republic's accession to the BRICS. This was reported on the website of the Russian Ministry on April 2.
"An exchange of views took place on topical issues on the international agenda, including in the context of Belarus joining BRICS as a partner state," the publication says.
Representatives of Moscow and Minsk also confirmed their commitment to expand ties within the framework of the association in the interests of forming a more just, equitable and comprehensive multipolar architecture of international cooperation.
Earlier in the day, Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated his Belarusian counterpart Alexander Lukashenko on the Day of Unity of the Peoples of the two countries and announced Moscow's intention to build mutually beneficial allied ties with Minsk in the interests of security and stability.
In his congratulatory message, Alexander Lukashenko stressed that the integration project of the two countries had contributed to gaining invaluable experience in various fields, as well as unlocking the potential of the economies. He expressed his conviction that the intensive nature of the political dialogue would further contribute to the effective implementation of the documents adopted by the leadership in the interests of the peoples.
