St. Petersburg has launched direct flights to Brest in honor of the Day of the Unity of the Peoples of Belarus and Russia. This was announced on Tuesday, April 2, according to the press service of Pulkovo Airport.

The first plane took off from the city on the Neva River at 18:55 and landed at 20:40, 78 TV channel reports. The journey time will be 1 hour and 45 minutes. Flights will be operated twice a week — on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Comfortable Embraer-175s will be used for them.

On the occasion of the launch of the new route, a solemn event with a musical program was held in Pulkovo, which was attended by officials. The airline's board was greeted with a traditional water arch.

Direct flights between the two cities were opened by Belavia Airline, which is one of the top 5 foreign Pulkovo airlines in terms of passenger traffic. In addition to Brest, the company operates flights from St. Petersburg to Minsk and Gomel.

Earlier, Izvestia wrote that in 2025, the geography of flights from Russia will expand both by adding new routes and increasing the number of departure cities. There will be 15 new holiday destinations in total.
