The FAS recommended that the regions of the Russian Federation actively conclude price agreements on meat

The Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) recommended that regions actively conclude price agreements on meat, as this measure will help stabilize prices for socially important products, as reported by the press service of the department on April 2.

"We are talking about temporary pricing agreements stipulated by the Decree of the Government of the Russian Federation No. 662. Regional authorities may, if necessary, in the current conditions, conclude them with business entities: suppliers, manufacturers and trade organizations," the FAS website says.

According to the service, as of March this year, price agreements for mutton were concluded in 16 regions of the country, for beef — in 24 regions, and for pork — in 25. This practice should be extended to other regions of Russia.

At the same time, regional authorities are also taking similar measures to stabilize prices in other areas of trade. Thus, agreements on various goods have been concluded with 14194 business entities in 50 regions of the Russian Federation. These include 159 manufacturers, 29 wholesale suppliers, and 1,006 retail organizations. It is noted that where agreements are in force, a positive effect has been observed, compared with price dynamics in regions where such documents are not available.

On March 26, it was also reported that the FAS would strengthen control over the formation of prices for short-term bread, and an instruction was sent to the territorial authorities for this purpose. Manufacturers with a significant share of sales of this product were identified in 82 regions. The territorial departments of the Federal Antimonopoly Service of Russia will analyze the validity of the wholesale prices they set.

On the same day, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin named intermediaries' margins as one of the main factors driving up food prices. The Head of Government also stated the importance of increasing the level of control more actively.
