Russia and Iran have confirmed their planned course towards finding viable negotiated solutions to the Iranian nuclear program. This was announced on April 2 by the Russian Foreign Ministry following a meeting between Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov and his Iranian counterpart Majid Takht-Ravanchi.

"The course set at the Russian-Chinese-Iranian high-level consultations in Beijing on March 14 to find viable, sustainable negotiated solutions to eliminate Western prejudices and misunderstandings regarding the Iranian nuclear program has been confirmed," the ministry said in a statement on its website.

It is noted that this takes into account Tehran's legitimate right to the peaceful use of atomic energy, which stems from the Islamic Republic's participation in the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT).

In addition, the parties stressed the necessity and inadmissibility of the use of military force methods by the Iranian opponents in the context of the settlement. The Russian Federation and Iran also noted that threats to attack nuclear energy infrastructure are unacceptable and could lead to irreversible consequences for the Middle East.

On March 30, US President Donald Trump threatened Iran with bombing if the parties did not sign an agreement on Tehran's refusal to develop nuclear weapons. In turn, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said on April 1 that military intervention in the republic by the United States would not be able to help resolve the issue of the nuclear deal.
