The defense of the head of Gagauzia, Evgenia Gutsul, intends to file a complaint against her arrest with the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR). This was announced on April 2 by Hutsul's lawyer Sergey Moraru.

He focused on the significance of the statements of the defenders, noting the mistakes made in the court decision, which, in his opinion, is contradictory. Moraru pointed out that the prosecutor had not taken into account a number of important aspects during the trial.

"I noted once again that there are no grounds for applying a preventive measure, I fought with all the arguments, the court's decision was predictable, and I'm telling you why," said the defender.

The lawyer also pointed out that two judges were temporarily transferred to the Court of Appeal, and their return to their previous positions will occur automatically, regardless of the government. He expressed the opinion that one of the judges was not appointed by chance, as he is inclined to make decisions beneficial to the government and politically motivated, rather than based on the law.

In addition, defender Gutsul recalled that the Republic of Moldova has already been convicted by the ECHR, and some judges cannot be promoted due to their involvement in illegal decisions.

Hutsul was detained at the Chisinau airport on March 25. According to the Moldovan Prosecutor General's Office, this happened after her name was found on the list of persons prohibited from leaving the country. On March 28, the head of Gagauzia was arrested for 20 days. This period turned out to be 10 days less than the prosecutors had requested.

The Pobeda bloc, in turn, expressed categorical protest against the court's decision to keep the head of the Gagauz Autonomy in custody for 20 days and called it a planned step to increase pressure on the dissenters.
