Russia may launch a national electric power project

The Russian Ministry of Energy sees the need for a separate national project for the development of the electric power industry and plans to develop it during the current year. This was announced on April 2 by Russian Energy Minister Sergei Tsivilev in an interview with reporters on the sidelines of the Tatarstan Energy Forum.
He said that on April 8, the Russian government will hold a strategic session on the electric power industry, at which the agency plans to present a program for the development of this area. As part of the events, Tsivilev plans to propose a new initiative.
"There should be a national project in the field of electric power, because we need to build 88 GW of new generation and 66 GW of modernization, plus a huge number of networks. <...> We need to modernize and build these volumes as soon as possible," TASS quoted him as saying.
The Minister expressed confidence in the approval of the national project by the government, taking into account the support of this idea from the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Ministry of Construction and the head of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov.
Earlier, on March 26, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin said that the government had successfully completed all 14 national projects completed in 2024. According to him, they act as a key tool for the work of the executive branch and primarily serve the interests of Russian citizens.
