The capital's self-employed have earned more than 1.6 trillion rubles over the entire period of the professional income tax in the capital. Maria Bagreeva, Deputy Mayor of Moscow and head of the Department of Economic Policy and Development of the city, told Izvestia on April 3.

"As of March 1, 2025, the number of professional income tax payers in Moscow has reached 1.97 million people. This is 15% of the total number of self-employed registered in Russia. Their total income for the entire duration of this tax regime in Moscow, since January 1, 2019, has exceeded 1.6 trillion rubles," Bagreeva said.

According to her, the professional income tax is in demand by citizens who work for themselves and do not hire employees. Its advantages are the ease of registration, the automated mode of transmitting information about income received, the absence of the obligation to provide tax reports and use cash registers.

"In January-February 2025, the self—employed transferred 3.1 billion rubles to the Moscow budget, which is 41% more than in the same months last year. Over the entire period of the tax regime, the capital's budget has received more than 42 billion rubles of tax," she said.

In addition, passenger and cargo transportation, delivery, rental of apartments, advertising and marketing, as well as construction became the most popular types of activities among the self-employed who indicated them at registration.

"In January-February 2025, the capital's professional income tax payers issued more than 54 million checks to customers, five times more than in 2024, which indicates an increase in the business activity of the self—employed in Moscow. The average size of the check at the end of February 2025 was 3,028 rubles," Bagreeva summed up.

Earlier, on February 18, Izvestia got acquainted with a study of the service for secure transactions with freelancers Solar Staff and the bank for entrepreneurs Blank, which named the leaders in terms of average monthly income among sole proprietors. According to a study by analysts, the leaders in terms of average monthly income were programmers (376,243 rubles) and web developers (282,647 rubles), as well as marketers (118 thousand rubles) and project managers (204,915 rubles).
