Electric scooters in Moscow equipped with "vandal-proof" numbers

All electric scooters and bicycles of kicksharing operators in Moscow were equipped with updated numbers in 2025. The Metropolitan Department of Transport announced this in its Telegram channel on April 2.
Rental means of individual mobility (SIM) received enlarged numbers. This will simplify the identification of violators by cameras, the Department of Transport noted. In addition, the solid construction of the sign will increase its vandal resistance and will not allow the numbers to be twisted or damaged, the department said.
Deptrans urged SIM users to move along bike paths, let pedestrians pass on sidewalks, cross the roadway dismounting, and also use protective equipment and reflective elements. Two-person rides on the same scooter and drunk driving are prohibited.
The day before, it was reported that the number of deaths in accidents involving electric scooters and other means of individual mobility (SIM) increased by more than 25% last year. Most of the deaths in SIM accidents were recorded in Moscow and the Krasnodar Territory. The number of victims of such accidents in 2024 increased by 44.5% and reached 4,591 people.
Also on Tuesday, a source in one of the sharing companies told Izvestia that this spring couriers on electric bicycles may be banned from riding on sidewalks. The Cabinet of Ministers is ready to equate this transport with mopeds: oblige them to use the right side of the roadway and get a license. The government is waiting for a draft of such amendments to the traffic regulations until April 3.
