On April 2, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov discussed with Vietnamese Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son the expansion of direct flights between Russia and the Asian republic.

"We noted the expansion of opportunities for tourism and other exchanges as a result of the resumption of direct flights between our countries. We talked today about expanding the geography and increasing the intensity of direct flights," Lavrov said during a joint press conference of the ministers, which was broadcast on the RuTube channel of the Russian Foreign Ministry.

The Russian minister stressed that the intensification of air traffic will contribute to the development of bilateral cooperation in a number of areas, including the economic one.

Earlier, on March 17, Vietnam Airlines announced that it would resume direct flights between Hanoi and Moscow after a three-year hiatus. Flights will start on May 8 and will be operated twice a week — on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
