A court has sentenced two sergeants of the Armed forces of Ukraine (VFU) to 14 years in prison for committing terrorist attacks in the Kursk region. This was reported on April 2 in the official Telegram channel of the military investigative bodies of the Investigative Committee of Russia.
According to the investigation, in September 2024, Roman Gonts and Pavel Cherny, as part of the VFU units, illegally invaded the territory of the Russian Federation. While in the Kursk region, they intimidated civilians and illegally occupied private households. In addition, Ukrainian sergeants prevented the evacuation of residents of the region, and repeatedly opened fire on Russian military personnel and civilians.
The defendants were found guilty under clauses "a" and "b" of Part 2 of Article 205 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Terrorist act") and sentenced to 14 years in prison with the first three years served in prison, and the rest in a high—security penal colony.
Earlier, on March 26, it was reported that the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation had established new facts of killings of civilians and looting by the VFU in the Sudzhansky district of the Kursk region. The official representative of the department, Svetlana Petrenko, noted that Ukrainian militants had killed at least two civilians, shelled the streets, deployed military equipment in the private sector and set fire to houses. A criminal case has been opened under paragraphs "b" of Part 3 of Article 205 and paragraphs "a", "c" of Part 3 of Article 356.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Terrorist act", "Looting").
