On the first day of April, 208 road accidents were recorded on Russian roads, in which 30 people were killed and 253 injured. 21 deaths were recorded among the drivers and passengers. This was reported to Izvestia on April 2 by the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

As a result of 77 accidents, 31 of which occurred at pedestrian crossings and 46 outside their area of operation, nine pedestrians were killed, and 71 more were injured in various degrees of severity. Among the injured were 17 children under the age of 16, eight of whom were injured while crossing the roadway at a pedestrian crossing.

On Wednesday, 17 bus accidents were recorded, in which three people were killed, and 31 more road users, including five children, were injured. Three bus accidents were caused by traffic violations committed by their drivers.

In Yakutia, on the 252nd km of the A-331 Vilyu federal highway (Tulun - Bratsk — Ust—Kut -Mirny — Yakutsk), a minibus driver with 10 passengers drove into the oncoming lane in a prohibited place, where he collided with a passenger car. Three bus passengers were injured in the accident, including two minors born in 2014, as well as the driver and passenger of the car. All of them were hospitalized with injuries of varying severity. Two more passengers in the car and six passengers on the bus were injured and, after receiving medical attention, were sent for outpatient treatment.

31 accidents involving minors were registered, as a result of which 36 young road users were injured, including 15 passengers. Two children were killed: a passenger and a pedestrian. So, in the city of Berdsk, Novosibirsk region, during the daytime, a 72-year-old SUV driver ran over a nine-year-old schoolboy who was unaccompanied and crossing the roadway at an unregulated pedestrian crossing. The boy died.

In the private sector of the city of Leninsk — Kuznetsky, Kemerovo region, an intoxicated 40-year—old car driver ran over pedestrians - a 40-year-old woman and her six-month-old daughter in a baby carriage, who were moving along the left shoulder in the opposite direction to the car that hit them. After the accident, the car went off the road and overturned. The mother and daughter died at the scene, the culprit of their deaths in the car accident was not injured. He had previously been convicted and in March 2020 was stripped of his driver's license for 18 months for driving under the influence of alcohol.

The State Traffic Inspectorate reminded motorists about the inadmissibility of driving while intoxicated. Road users were urged not to remain indifferent to the problem of drunkenness at the wheel and promptly report to the police about drivers who behave inappropriately on the road, driving drunk. Traffic police officers are ready to take all necessary operational measures to respond to such reports.

The agency recommended drivers to be especially collected and careful when driving near schools, kindergartens and other educational or sports organizations. With the start of school after the recent spring break, there is a high probability of children suddenly appearing on the road in educational institutions with a quarter-time schedule, especially in the morning and evening. When approaching such facilities, as well as pedestrian crossings, motorists should reduce their speed as much as possible in order to be able to stop in case of a sudden change in the road situation.

Parents need to constantly remind their child about the rules of safe behavior on the street. They should walk with him several times all the way from home to school, section and circle, drawing the young pedestrian's attention to the most dangerous places. At the same time, it is worth making the child the "leader" so that he himself tells how and where he will cross the street, what he will pay attention to, in which places he will take special care, the Traffic police indicated.

"We remind you that for schools with trimester studies, spring break in 2025 is scheduled for the period from April 5 to April 13, therefore, the streets of cities and other settlements of our country will soon be filled again with the "second wave" of young road users resting from school lessons, whose leisure and free time on vacation will again be needed. We need constant parental control in order to avoid situations where cases of child traffic injuries occur," Police Colonel Sergei Hrantskevich, head of the Department for Road Safety Promotion and Prevention of child traffic injuries at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, told Izvestia.

Earlier in the day, it was reported that drivers with high driving experience were most often involved in road accidents in Russia in 2024. At the same time, the smallest proportion of accidents was recorded with the participation of novice drivers, they turned out to be the most careful on the roads.
