Nine children became ill, they received medical attention, their parents were informed, an ambulance and the police were called," TASS quoted the ministry as saying.

The victim's mother told Izvestia that her daughter was already better.

"A boy, a classmate, threw a small firecracker into a briefcase, and it exploded in the briefcase. Not my daughter," she commented, adding that she did not know any other details.

Earlier that day, it was reported that at a school in the village of Vedenka, Primorsky Krai, a student stabbed a classmate in the eye with a pen.
