The expert named the main mistakes of dog owners

Most of the problems in the behavior of pets are not related to the animals themselves, but to the wrong actions of their owners. There are also prohibitions for pet owners that they must comply with. On April 3, Vladimir Golubev, President of the Russian Cynological Federation, told Izvestia about the typical mistakes of dog owners and gave recommendations on how to correct them.
The expert noted that many owners allow inconsistency in their upbringing, allowing today what was forbidden yesterday, or randomly distributing treats for no reason. This approach confuses the animal and leads to problems with obedience.
"Yesterday the dog received a treat for following the command, today the encouragement is given for no reason. Such inconsistency causes confusion in the pet, and it is difficult for him to understand what actions a person expects from him," the dog handler explained.
Another common mistake is the habit of feeding your pet from your desk. According to Golubev, this not only provokes begging, but can also lead to serious health problems, including obesity.
The expert drew attention to the fact that many owners are still convinced that the dog must be kept strictly and subordinated. However, this approach, based on shouting and even more so physical punishment, creates an atmosphere of constant stress in the house. As a result, the pet begins to associate the owner not with love and trust, but with pain and negativity, and he may even become depressed.
At the same time, the expert warned that excessive permissiveness is no less harmful: when a dog is allowed everything, it ceases to recognize the authority of the owner.
Golubev called the lack of emotional connection between the owner and the pet the most serious mistake. The dog is sensitive to the owner's indifference, which negatively affects its psychological state.
"You can't get a dog if you're not ready to genuinely love it, be interested in it, share its relatively short life and devote enough time to it," the specialist said.
Earlier, on March 1, Zhanna Kashtanova, a specialist of the online veterinary service KotZdorov, told Izvestia how to take care of a pet in the spring. According to her, it is not necessary to drastically change the activity level of the animal with the arrival of spring. If the pet is active and ready for adventure, you can gradually increase the duration and intensity of walks. In a calm and shy animal, a sharp increase in activity will cause stress.
