Alexander Ovechkin, a Russian hockey player and captain of the Washington Capitals, set a record for goals in a season in the National Hockey League (NHL) among players aged 30 and older.
In a match against the Boston Bruins hockey club on April 2, the Russian athlete scored an abandoned puck, which became his 416th since reaching the age of 30. So Ovechkin surpassed the record of Canadian forward Gordie Howe.
The match ended with a score of 4:3 in favor of Washington. The team scored 105 points in 74 games and leads the Eastern Conference. Boston is in last place with 69 points in 75 games.
The day before, Ovechkin scored his 891st goal in the NHL regular season match against HC Boston Bruins and reduced the gap from Canadian Wayne Gretzky to three goals. The Russian scored his 38th goal of the current NHL season during the match.
