New antibiotic-resistant bacterium discovered in Malaysia

A new antibiotic-resistant bacterium has been discovered in Malaysia that causes infections in many parts of the body. This was reported on April 1 by the Mirror.

David Cleary, a member of the international research group, pointed out the need to constantly monitor the spread of this strain of the virus and develop treatment methods.

The virus is particularly dangerous for low- and middle-income countries. They will be the ones who will be most vulnerable to an antibiotic-resistant disease.

Ovchinnikov and Lomonosov Moscow State University have discovered and studied a previously unknown family of antimicrobial peptides, which in the future may become the basis for the creation of a new, more effective type of antibiotics.
