- New photodiodes will improve the operation of CT scanners and inspection systems

Employees of NUST MISIS and the N.S. Enikolopov Institute of Synthetic Polymer Materials of the Russian Academy of Sciences received perovskite photodiodes on thin films with a higher response rate and a range of light detection. They can be used in medical and telecommunication devices, security systems and other equipment — wherever it is necessary to register light radiation.
The introduction of a new material will make it possible to increase their sensitivity by almost an order of magnitude compared to classical silicon elements. In addition, silicon detectors are not manufactured in our country, and it is possible to make perovskites in Russia, the scientists said.
"We are developing the technology of micropixel photodiodes based on printed principles. The new study shows an important result: the effective operation of photodiodes for X-ray conversion has been confirmed, which is extremely important for high-resolution medical tomography detectors or security systems. The precise engineering of the interfaces in our devices has significantly increased the sensitivity of the devices and suppressed noise," Danila Saranin, head of the Laboratory of Advanced Solar Energy at NUST MISIS, told Izvestia.
The new photodiodes can be applied to a wide variety of substrate types, including flexible plastics. This makes them convenient to use as photosensitive elements of cameras and modern imaging systems.
