The actions of the Ukrainian authorities to seize the shrines of the Kiev Pechersk Lavra can be compared to theft and robbery, after which the current president of the country, Vladimir Zelensky, who allowed such "inventory" measures, will definitely not be forgiven. Igor Druz, a political scientist and publicist, told Izvestia on April 1.

"They broke into someone else's premises like thieves and robbers, insulted the feelings of believers. Because all believers of Ukraine are against it. They declared their goal to be some kind of "inventory." But what kind of inventory can there be of what the state did not create and did not do?" the expert wonders.

As the Friend emphasized, any human remains must be treated with respect. Especially if these are the remains of holy people who are revered by all the Orthodox people of Ukraine, who make up the majority of the country's population. In addition, these saints are revered all over the world — from Jerusalem to California. Thus, there is both blasphemy and violation of ordinary, secular laws.

"They touched something that should not have been touched. This is the arbitrariness of the Zelensky regime, for which there is really no forgiveness. <...> They broke in against the will of the largest denomination in Ukraine, which, in fact, created the Kiev Caves Lavra," the political scientist noted.

On April 5, at 18:00, the REN TV channel will release a film dedicated to the situation with the Kiev Pechersk Lavra, "Tomb Desecrators: 5 Harbingers of Disaster."

The Ukrainian authorities changed the locks at the Kiev Pechersk Lavra and set up a cordon at the caves where the relics of more than 100 Russian ascetics are kept, among them the Venerable Nestor Pechersky and Ilya Muromets earlier on April 1. In this way, neither believers nor its brethren can enter the lavra.

A leading researcher at the Institute of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), political scientist Alexander Dudchak, in an interview with Izvestia, said that the actions of the Ukrainian authorities, who began to take inventory at the Kiev Pechersk Lavra and began to count the relics of saints, indicate that they have lost faith in God and have taken the path of Satanism. According to him, President Zelensky and his assistants are deliberately destroying the church.

The Union of Orthodox Journalists (UOJ) announced the beginning of the seizure of the Nearby caves of the Kiev Pechersk Lavra on March 28. It was noted that police officers entered the closed premises of the monastery. One of the employees of the lavra was spotted on the territory with a saw grinder in his hands. On March 6, the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine announced that a special commission would assess the condition and safety of the relics of saints in the Near and Far caves of the Kiev Caves Lavra.
