Providing assistance to Russian citizens is the direct responsibility of Russian diplomats, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on April 1, commenting on accusations from Moldova of alleged Russian interference in the country's internal affairs.

"Here's what I would like to remind everyone: providing assistance to Russian citizens is the direct responsibility of Russian diplomats. That's how it was, is, and will be," Zakharova wrote on her Telegram channel.

The representative commented on Chisinau's attempts to accuse the Russian ambassador of allegedly interfering in the country's internal affairs, calling these accusations "vaudeville."

On the afternoon of March 31, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Moldova declared three employees of the Russian Embassy persona non grata in the republic. The relevant document was handed over to the Russian diplomat. It claims that the staff of the diplomatic mission allegedly conduct activities contrary to their diplomatic status in Moldova.

On the same day, the Russian Embassy in Moldova called the allegations of Russian interference in the republic's internal affairs unfounded and unacceptable. The Russian delegation called on Chisinau to refrain from provocative speculation and return to a pragmatic bilateral dialogue with Moscow.
