Therapist, pulmonologist Marat Farrakhov spoke about the dangers of vaping for the lungs.

In conversation with the agency RuNews24.Ru On Tuesday, April 1, a specialist warned that despite the absence of tobacco in the composition, electronic cigarettes contain many chemical compounds that negatively affect the respiratory system. Vaping liquid forms an aerosol when heated, it contains nicotine, propylene glycol, glycerin and various flavors. Inhalation of these components irritates the mucous membrane of the bronchi and lungs, which can lead to chronic inflammation and increased sensitivity of the respiratory tract.

"The aerosol from e—cigarettes causes structural changes in lung tissue, which can contribute to the development of chronic diseases such as obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)," said Farrakhov.

In addition, vaping reduces the activity of immune cells in the lungs, making them more vulnerable to viruses and bacteria. It also increases the likelihood of developing a "popcorn lung."

Vaping has a particularly detrimental effect on teenagers. As the doctor explained, nicotine harms the developing brain, impairing memory, attention and learning ability. Regular inhalation of chemicals can lead to chronic lung diseases. Vapes also pose a threat to pregnant women, nicotine can disrupt the development of the nervous system of the fetus. Nicotine also reduces oxygen supply, which increases the risk of stunting and giving birth to a baby with low birth weight, and increases the risk of congenital anomalies. Vaping can also trigger the risk of premature birth and miscarriage.

On March 19, pulmonologist Marina Gambaryan, in an interview with the National Health Service, admitted that the real number of cases of EVALI among Russians caused by vapes and electronic cigarettes may be higher.

Earlier, Rospotrebnadzor reported a rare disease in a teenager from Tomsk. Doctors revealed his characteristic symptoms — coughing, shortness of breath and chest pain, and when listening to his lungs, a crack similar to the sound of popcorn popping was heard. 360.ru .

In October, pulmonologist Victoria Vavilova said that when heated, diacetyl contained in vaping flavors causes inflammation in the respiratory tract, damages DNA and leads to cell death, notes Pravda.Ru .

EVALI was first diagnosed in 2019 in the USA, RT reminds.
