The White House confirmed the deaths of four American servicemen during exercises in Lithuania, calling the incident a sacrifice for national security. This was announced on April 1 by the press secretary of the US administration, Caroline Leavitt.

"Unfortunately, the bodies of three soldiers were found in Lithuania yesterday, and it pains me to confirm that a fourth soldier was found dead today," Leavitt said at a briefing.

She stressed that the tragedy serves as a reminder of the "selfless sacrifice" of American servicemen who "risk their lives around the world to ensure the safety" of the United States.

The Lrytas portal reported on the deaths of four missing American servicemen on March 26. The next day, a sunken M88 Hercules armored recovery vehicle (BREM) was found in the swamp.

On March 31, the Lithuanian Prosecutor General's Office launched a preliminary investigation into the deaths of four American soldiers. On the same day, the bodies of three U.S. soldiers were found. Their identities were also not disclosed. On April 1, the body of the fourth soldier who disappeared during the exercises was discovered.
