The United States sees the need to maintain peace in the Taiwan Strait in connection with the military exercises of the People's Liberation Army of China (PLA) off the coast of the island. This was announced on April 1 by White House Press Secretary Caroline Leavitt.

"This morning, the National Security Council [of the White House] informed me about this, and they said that the President [of the United States Donald Trump] emphasizes the importance of maintaining peace in the Taiwan Strait," she said at a briefing, referring to Assistant to the President of the United States for National Security Mike Waltz.

According to her, the head of state also encourages peaceful resolution of problems on both sides of the Strait and confirms that the American side opposes unilateral attempts to change the status quo using force or coercion.

The Reuters news agency reported on April 1 that the Chinese military announced joint army, naval and missile exercises around the island of Taiwan. It was clarified that, in particular, the exercises focus on combat readiness patrols from sea and air, attacks on sea and land targets, and blockades of key areas and sea lanes to test the capabilities of joint military operations.
