The State Duma spoke about the state of relations between Russia and the United States

Relations between Russia and the United States are at a point of maneuver. This was stated by State Duma deputy Svetlana Zhurova on Tuesday, April 1.

According to her, the parties are looking for common ground, based on their own interests.

"Everyone is maneuvering, taking a closer look. There is such a restructuring of strategies and approaches, and everyone remains within the interests of their country," the politician said in a conversation with Lenta.Ru .

Zhurova stressed that the United States always relies on its own commercial interests in foreign policy, and the same is true in the context of the current administration's attitude towards Russia. At the same time, the parliamentarian noted that the new US president, Donald Trump, is taking a noticeably less aggressive policy towards Moscow than some of his colleagues, which affects the dialogue between the countries.

"Now we are in the process of negotiations, searching for common ground where we have no disagreements and where cooperation is possible, starting from a hockey match and ending with anti—terrorist operations," the deputy concluded.

In 2.5 hours, the leaders of the two countries also discussed the situation in the Middle East and cooperation in the field of sports.

Earlier in the day, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov announced that a new meeting between representatives of the Russian Federation and the United States was under preparation, RT reports.
