The endocrinologist named the most harmful cereals for joints

In addition to basic treatment, it is important for people with joint disease to monitor their diet and exclude refined cereals from their diet, since their regular consumption can lead to an exacerbation of joint pain. This was announced by Angela Tolmasova, an endocrinologist at SM Clinic, in a conversation with Izvestia on April 2.
As she explained, the grain consists of three key components: the bran layer, saturated with fiber and minerals; the germ layer, a kind of nutrient center; and the endospermium, the middle part containing carbohydrates and protein.
Whole—grain products retain all these elements, while refining removes the most valuable parts - bran and germ, which contain fiber, vitamins and minerals.
"Studies show that refined cereals increase the level of inflammatory markers in the blood, which has a negative effect on joints and also contributes to the development of other health problems. Refined cereals include, for example, white bread, peeled rice, pastries and sweet muffins," the expert explained.
At the same time, according to the doctor, studies do not confirm a link between the consumption of whole grains and increased inflammation in the body.
The endocrinologist emphasized that whole grain products are rich in B vitamins and antioxidants that protect cells from damage. They also contain a large amount of fiber, which helps to eliminate "bad" cholesterol from the body.
"Studies show that regular consumption of such cereals reduces the risk of diabetes, hypertension and heart disease. In addition, whole—grain products help maintain healthy intestinal microflora, which is important for the overall health of the body," Tolmasova added.
In conclusion, the doctor advised to exclude refined cereals from their diet, especially for people with joint diseases.
"Remember that nutrition has a big impact on health. And, if you have any chronic diseases, in addition to the main treatment, it is important to control your diet. Give preference to healthier foods, and then your well—being will improve significantly," the specialist concluded.
Earlier, on March 14, DDX Fitness trainer and nutritionist Artem Opalnitsky told Izvestia that in some cases whole-grain bread, milk, fresh juices and cereals can be harmful. Thus, whole-grain bread is not suitable for people with gluten intolerance, and when making freshly squeezed juice, useful dietary fibers are destroyed.
