The United States is not ready for a protracted conflict with China because of the too slow defense industry. This was announced on April 1 by the candidate for the post of head of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the US Armed Forces, General John Kane, during answers to questions from the Senate Armed Forces Affairs Committee.

"Unfortunately, at this critical moment, the United Forces are facing a procurement system and a military-industrial base that are not adapted to a prolonged conflict," RIA Novosti quoted him as saying.

According to Kane, Washington does not have enough bandwidth, flexibility, and speed, which are necessary to deter the opponents of the United States.

The Standard reported on March 31 that Japan, China and the Republic of Korea plan to work out a common response to US President Donald Trump's trade duties. It was clarified that the states agreed to strengthen cooperation in the supply chain, as well as to intensify dialogue on export control issues.

On March 4, the American leader doubled import duties on goods from China from 10% to 20% and accused Beijing of failing to combat drug trafficking. According to him, the failure of the Chinese government to take measures to curb the steady influx of opioids into the United States, including fentanyl, poses an unusual threat, the source of which is largely located outside the United States.
