The expert spoke about an effective approach to weight loss

The calorie counting method for weight correction is outdated, as it does not take into account the complex processes of regulating eating behavior, digestion, and nutrient absorption. This opinion was shared with Izvestia on April 2 by Andrey Martyushev-Poklad, market expert of the National Technology Initiative (NTI) "Helsnet", Candidate of Medical Sciences.
"The hopelessly outdated "caloric" model of obesity still prevails. It consists in the fact that in order to get rid of "extra pounds" it is necessary and sufficient to spend more energy than it enters the body with food. However, this model does not take into account all the complex processes of regulation of eating behavior, digestion and assimilation of nutrients, therefore, in general, it does not work," he noted.
According to him, it is impossible to get rid of excess weight if a person has nutritional deficiencies, sleep disorders or if he is in chronic social stress.
According to the expert, a more competent approach to weight loss is to take into account the nutritional value of foods and the hormonal signals that food and other lifestyle factors trigger in the body. So, by consuming the same number of calories, you can gain and lose pounds — it all depends on the composition of the food, diet and other factors.
Martyushev-Poklad predicts that calorie counters and steps taken, popular as tools for "self-losing weight," will sooner or later lose their relevance. They will be replaced by a more systematic approach to health management through the correction of all lifestyle factors.
"Nutritionally dense foods should be the basis of a healthy and competent diet. These include offal, small fish, dark green leafy vegetables, beef, and eggs. It is optimal to combine whole animal products with vegetables," the expert added.
Earlier, on January 29, Natia Chekhoeva, a gastroenterologist and endoscopist at the Gastro Clinic, told Izvestia that the systematic consumption of excess calories inevitably overloads the body. This not only increases body weight, but also puts a strain on internal organs, including the heart, liver, and pancreas.
