Germany is starting to deploy a brigade of 5,000 troops on a permanent basis in Lithuania. This was reported on April 1 by Politico magazine with reference to the Bundeswehr.

"Germany has officially launched its first permanent deployment of foreign troops since World War II — an armored brigade of 5,000 people in Lithuania," the article says.

According to the newspaper, a temporary headquarters has been established and now the unit is officially under the command of Brigadier General Christoph Huber.

"We have a clear mission.: to ensure the protection, freedom and security of our Lithuanian allies on the eastern flank of NATO," Huber said.

Earlier, on March 31, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said that the policy of militarization of the European Union (EU) would lead to the disintegration of the union. He stressed that Brussels is contributing to the prolongation of hostilities in Ukraine, and "Budapest will continue to defend its position."
