In Germany, the question of the fate of SP-2 after the conflict in Ukraine was raised

Member of the Bundestag from the BSW party (Sarah Wagenknecht Union for Reason and Justice) Andrei Hunko has asked the German government about the possible resumption of the Nord Stream 2 (SP—2) gas pipeline after the end of the conflict in Ukraine.
"Has the federal government formed a position on whether, in the event of a settlement of the war in Ukraine and an agreement between the United States and Russia on Nord Stream 2, the issue of putting this gas pipeline into operation can be considered?" Lenta quotes.Ru the text of the deputy's address.
Philipp Nimmermann, State Secretary of the German Ministry of Economy and Climate Protection, provided a response to his request. He stressed that after the outbreak of the conflict in Ukraine and the cessation of gas supplies from Russia in 2022, the German government "has made significant efforts to diversify energy sources." According to him, independence from Russian gas is of strategic importance for the federal government from the point of view of security, and it adheres to this course.
"Since the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline has not received the necessary certification, its commissioning is still impossible. In addition, US sanctions continue to apply against the operator of Nord Stream 2 AG," the agency's representative said.
On March 20, the Bild newspaper wrote that the SP-2 gas pipeline could be transferred to the control of the United States so that Germany could receive gas from Russia through it.
It is noted that in order to implement this option, anti-Russian sanctions should be lifted not only by the American side, but also by the European side. Currently, companies from Germany cannot conduct their business with Russia directly and are forced to do so through third countries.
Earlier, on March 16, the head of the German Council for Constitution and Sovereignty, Ralf Niemeyer, expressed the opinion that the launch of Russian gas supplies through the surviving SP-2 pipeline would benefit Germany, but if the United States is really interested in this project, the price of gas may rise, RT reports.
The politician added that one should be more careful with the proposals of the American side, since Washington is primarily looking for benefits for itself.
On March 3, the official representative of the European Commission (EC), Anna-Kaisa Itkonen, stated that the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline project was not a point of interest for EU states. According to her, it does not allow to diversify the energy sources of the association.
Earlier, on March 2, the administration of US President Donald Trump admitted that the project of restarting Nord Stream 2 was an asset that could be used in negotiations on the Ukrainian conflict. 360.ru .
