- The court sentenced four Ukrainian Armed Forces militants for the attack on the Kursk region

The Second Western District Military Court has sentenced four Ukrainian militants for terrorist activities in the Kursk region. This was announced on April 1 on the website of the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation.
"The court found that in the early morning of August 23, 2024, [Maxim] Lebedev, [Sergey] Butenko, [Alexey] Yevseev and [Alexander] Zanchuk, armed with automatic assault rifles and large-caliber weapons, and explosive devices <...> illegally invaded the territory of the Sudzhansky district of the Kursk region. They then proceeded towards D. Sleeping place," the message says.
In order to block and hold the village, they set up firing positions in the forest plantation, mined the road, and also monitored the area, transmitting information about the actions of the Russian military, and intimidated the civilian population, preventing their evacuation.
The court found them guilty under clauses "a" and "b" of Part 2 of Article 205 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (commission by a group of persons by prior agreement of a terrorist act that entailed grave consequences). It is noted that the court sentenced the Ukrainian militants to terms ranging from 14 to 15 years in prison, with the first three years served in prison, and after that in a high—security penal colony.
The day before, a court sentenced three militants of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) to 15 years in prison for illegally invading the Kursk region. It was specified that the defendants would spend the first three years in prison, and after that in a high—security penal colony.
