On April 1, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law aimed at protecting citizens from telephone and Internet scams. The document is published on the portal of legal acts.

As specified in the document, citizens will be able to refuse to receive mass calls and messages, and all incoming calls from legal entities will be displayed on labeled phone screens. Banks are now required to extend anti-fraud measures not only to online transfers, but also to ATM transactions.

It is noted that access to the information system will be provided to the Prosecutor General's Office, the Investigative Committee, the Central Bank, credit institutions, telecom operators and other authorized bodies and organizations, the list of which will be approved by the government.

In addition, Russians will be able to appoint trusted persons to whom the bank will contact to confirm financial transactions.

The deputies of the State Duma at a meeting earlier that day unanimously adopted the law on combating telephone fraud. 401 people voted for the bill's adoption. As the chairman of the State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin noted, the law has been amended and will more effectively solve the tasks of protecting our citizens from fraud using modern information technologies. He noted that scammers do not stand still, so they need to be actively countered as well.
