The US position on Ukraine currently completely lacks the requirement to solve problems related to the root causes of the current conflict, such a situation must be overcome. This was stated on April 1 by Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov in an interview with the International Life magazine.

He noted that Moscow had not heard that US President Donald Trump had given Kiev a specific signal to cease hostilities.

"Everything that exists today is an attempt to find some kind of scheme that would allow us to achieve a cease—fire first, as the Americans think of it. And then move on to some other models and schemes, in which, as far as can be judged, there is currently no place for our main requirement, namely, solving problems related to the root causes of this conflict. This is completely missing, and it must be overcome," said a senior diplomat.

Ryabkov added that Russia takes the ways proposed by the American side to resolve the conflict absolutely seriously, but cannot agree with everything that is said from overseas.

"We take the models and solutions proposed by the Americans very seriously, but we also cannot accept everything as it is. We certainly have a deeply and carefully thought-out set of our own priorities and approaches to this topic, which is being worked out and has been worked out, including by our negotiating team at recent talks with the Americans in Riyadh," he said.

On March 31, Trump said he wanted Russia's consent to conclude a deal to resolve the conflict in Ukraine. He added that he would not like to impose secondary duties against Russia, but is ready to take such a step if there is no progress on the settlement. The day before, it was reported that the American leader announced his intention to hold a new conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin in the near future.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on March 27 that there was no exact date for a new round of talks between the Russian and US delegations yet. He added that a conversation between Putin and Trump is also not planned.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on March 25 that European countries, after Kiev's statements about agreeing to a 30-day ceasefire, immediately changed their position on the inadmissibility of a truce. He also drew attention to the fact that Europe intends to "undermine" the role of the United States in resolving the Ukrainian conflict, and also does not want to eliminate its root causes.
