Record amount of precipitation fell in four days in Kamchatka region


Last week, a cyclone brought record rainfall to the Kamchatka Territory. The areas continue to eliminate the consequences of the disaster.
From March 23 to 26, 140% to 260% of the monthly precipitation rate fell in different localities. A similar situation was observed last time in March 2016. This is reported by the KamchatkaMedia news agency.
The most intense precipitation was observed on March 23 and 25. Snow growth per day was 65-129 cm.
In the south of Kamchatka, the weather worsened on March 28 and 29. Two storm warnings were in effect. In coastal areas, the wind speed reached 30 m/s. On March 29, a wind speed of 45 m/s was recorded in the village of Ozernovsky.
For the entire period of weather observations, the most powerful cyclone in Kamchatka operated in 1971. Then 573 mm of precipitation fell in ten days. The national economy suffered damage in the amount of 6 million rubles.
