Scientists from the People's Republic of China (PRC) have reconstructed the face of a man who lived 16 thousand years ago. This was reported by the Xinhua news Agency with reference to the Journal of Archaeological Science.
"Scientists from the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region (GCHAR. — Ed.) recreated the face of a prehistoric man who lived 16 thousand years ago. <...> The fossil skull of an ancient man was discovered in the Yahuai cave, located in a hill in the village of Bolan in Long'an Gchar County," follows from the publication dated March 30.
According to the agency, the specialists used a computer method of image restoration and 3D modeling. In addition, the scientists applied the technology of three-dimensional geometric morphometry to analyze and compare the similarities and differences between the skull found in Yahuai Cave and the skulls of modern humans.
Experts have discovered that the prehistoric skull is larger than modern female skulls, but smaller than male skulls. And the more prominent frontal bone of a prehistoric man makes the shape of his skull more similar to that of a modern woman.
Earlier, on March 26, it was reported that scientists had discovered the largest preserved dinosaur claw in the Gobi Desert in Mongolia. Scientists suggest that the dinosaur looked like a "bizarre mix" of a sloth and a giraffe. According to the researchers, this is the largest claw of its kind found completely preserved. Presumably, the animal was about 3 m tall and weighed about 260 kg.
