The leader of the French right-wing National Unification party, Marine Le Pen, said on Monday, March 31, that she would not ask French President Emmanuel Macron for a pardon.

"No, and no again, because the pardon concerns the final decision, but the case is not at this stage," she said on TF1 TV channel.

Le Pen's lawyer has already stated that he intends to appeal the verdict. Until then, Le Pen stressed that she hopes for the impartiality of the Court of Appeal in her case, and added that in a democracy it is up to the voters to decide.

On March 31, a court in Paris found Le Pen guilty of embezzling European Parliament funds in a case involving the creation of fictitious jobs. She was sentenced to four years in prison, two of which were suspended, and the rest were placed under house arrest while wearing an electronic bracelet.
