The company that owns the cargo ship Solong, which collided with a tanker off the coast of Britain last month, will create a fund for possible lawsuits. This was announced on Monday, March 31, according to the Reuters news agency.

"The incident occurred in the territorial waters of the United Kingdom, and there are interested parties and potential plaintiffs residing in the UK, such as government agencies, so the creation of a fund in the UK is the most appropriate way forward," the newspaper quoted a representative of Ernst Russ, which owns the ship.

It is specified that in this way the owners of Solong intend to ensure the availability of a fund for all proven charges.

Earlier, on March 10, a tanker and a container ship Solong collided off the northeast coast of England, causing a large fire. Sky News channel announced the rescue of all 37 sailors on board the ships, but later it was reported that one of them was missing.

According to the Russian Embassy in the UK, there were five Russians on board the cargo ship, one of them the captain, who was charged with manslaughter. All Russian citizens are alive and unharmed, the diplomatic mission added.

On March 14, it was reported that Russian diplomats had a telephone conversation with a Russian citizen detained in the UK, the captain of the Solong vessel. It is specified that the Russian is provided with an interpreter and a lawyer.
