French Justice Minister Gerald Darmanin on Monday, March 31, called unacceptable threats to judges because of the verdict of the leader of the parliamentary faction of the right-wing National Unification party Marine Le Pen.

"Threats against the judges of the Paris Court are unacceptable in a democratic society and raise concerns about the independence of the judiciary," he wrote on his page on the social network X (ex. Twitter).

Earlier that day, a court in Paris found Le Pen guilty of embezzling European Parliament funds in a case involving the creation of fictitious jobs. She was sentenced to four years in prison, two of which were suspended, and the rest were placed under house arrest while wearing an electronic bracelet. The politician's lawyer has already stated that he intends to appeal the verdict.
