The United States will impose visa sanctions on Chinese officials due to current restrictions on foreign citizens' access to the Tibetan Autonomous Region. This was announced on Monday, March 31, by Secretary of State Mark Rubio.

"Today, I am taking steps to impose additional visa restrictions on Chinese officials who are found to be significantly involved in the development or implementation of policies related to foreign access to Tibetan areas, in accordance with the 2018 Law on Mutual Access to Tibet," he said in a statement.

According to him, China does not allow foreigners, including diplomats and journalists, to visit Tibet, although they have wide access to the United States.

The Tibet Autonomous Region was founded in 1965. At the same time, Chinese was introduced as the official language and the establishment of a socio-economic system began, which worked in the rest of the PRC.

Earlier, on July 13, 2024, the Chinese side strongly protested the US bill "On facilitating the resolution of the Tibetan-Chinese dispute." Beijing believes that the document is a gross interference in the internal affairs of China.

Before that, on July 8, the United States imposed visa sanctions against the Chinese authorities because of the situation in Tibet. According to Washington, Beijing systematically prevents American diplomats, journalists and tourists from traveling to the Tibetan Autonomous Region of China.
