In Georgia, participants in an anti-government protest on Monday, March 31, fired fireworks at the parliament building.

The protesters are demanding repeated parliamentary elections, RIA Novosti reports. The rally is taking place in front of the building of the supreme legislative body in the center of Tbilisi.

Former President Salome Zurabishvili attended the rally. She addressed the participants and supported them, pointing out the need to fight the "illegitimate government." She suggested creating a "platform of resistance" in which the pro-European political spectrum should participate.

"The main principle of this platform is that it was open to all pro—European parties and groups that are ready to put aside political incompatibility and share both main goals of the protest: to call new fair elections and release [those detained at the rallies]," she said.

A new wave of protests in Georgia began on March 28 after Prime Minister Kobakhidze announced the suspension of negotiations on the country's European integration until 2028.

Prior to that, on March 13, the Speaker of the Georgian Parliament, Shalva Papuashvili, announced the involvement of organizations funded by the European Union in protest actions in 2024. Papuashvili also recalled that at the end of last year, EU officials did not condemn the actions of the protesters who almost burned down the parliament building, pelting it with firecrackers and molotov cocktails.
