- In Birmingham, 17,000 tons of waste accumulated on the streets due to a strike by scavengers

In the British city of Birmingham, thousands of tons of waste have accumulated on the streets of the city due to a strike by garbage collectors, which no one cleans up. This was reported on March 31 by The Birmingham Mail (BM) newspaper.
Birmingham City Council has declared a "major incident" in the city this afternoon, saying the strike by scavengers poses a risk to human health and the environment.
It clarifies that the volume of accumulated waste is 17 thousand tons. The newspaper reports that such a large amount of garbage now "clogs the sidewalks and causes an unpleasant odor, as well as infested with rats and maggots."
"As a result, the city announced that it could not cope. This gives him the opportunity to attract more help from external agencies for garbage collection," concludes BM.
On March 18, the Khabarovsk interdistrict Environmental Prosecutor's office began an inspection after the discovery of illegal landfills of biological waste in the Khabarovsk region. The prosecutor's office found one of them during a joint field event with the OED "Protection of Nature" in Michurinsky rural settlement.
