Minister of Finance of Israel Bezalel Smotrich has left the government

Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich has resigned from his position in the government. This was announced on March 31 by the official's press secretary.
He made this decision in protest with the position of the current Minister of National Security of the country, Itamar Ben-Gvir, The Jerusalem Post clarifies.
It is planned that Smotrich's place in the Knesset will be occupied by a member of his party, the National Religious Party — Religious Zionism.
In November 2024, Smotrich threatened the Palestinian group Hamas that the Israeli army would remain in Gaza forever. According to him, in order to return the abductees, it is necessary to deprive the Palestinian group of power in the territory of the enclave. Smotrich also added that for these purposes it is necessary not only to conduct military operations, but also to stop sending humanitarian supplies that prolong the life of the Palestinian movement.
